Skull VII

Skull VIII is an experience of a doe deer skull. It is painted with shades of yellow oxide, unbleached titanium, payne’s gray, and hues of deep mars black. The background is a rich tone of burgundy made from a mixture of alizarin crimson, deep cadmium red, van dyke red, and prism violet.

The Skull Collection rests at the center of Mira Helena’s body of work. An ode to silent remains, the Skull Collection is inspired by the animals that grace Montana and the West’s vast landscape. By keenly depicting the many facets of their bones, Mira Helena lays bare a beauty that is calming yet intimidating, eliciting an affecting experience that honors the animal.
